Iran to boost e-commerce with CIS

TEHRAN, Oct. 18 (MNA) – Iran has launched cooperation with Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in order to develop electronic commerce.

Iran’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has begun negotiations with neighboring and CIS countries in line with expansion and reinvigoration of foreign cooperation in the field of e-commerce.

On the account, Azerbaijan's Minister of Communications and High Technologies Ali Abbasov, on his trip to Tehran, has visited Payam Special Economic Zone calling for expansion of relations between the two countries.

Managing Director of Payam Special Economic Zone Saeid Zarandi, during a meeting with the visiting Azerbaijani ICT minister, said “Iran will develop e-commerce collaborations with CIS members in the coming year.”

Zarandi pointed to the studies carried out by a Singaporean team to construct an ICT town in Payam region reiterating “outlining future prospects of Payam industrial city is being undertaken in a partnership between Iranian and Singaporean teams in a step-by-step fashion and the project is expected to become operational within three to five years.”

On exports development, Zarandi said extensive relations have been launched with industry and agriculture sectors and activation of Customs services has led to significant growth in exports over the past six months.

He further touched upon air cargo activities and the plan to set up a dry port at Payam airport saying “creation of export and cargo terminals as well as ITC and electronic customs is also on the agenda.”
